Columbia Eyewear For The Outdoors

Columbia eyewear is made by the Columbia Sportswear Company found its roots way back in 1938 with a humble beginning as a small hat distribution family business. From then on, this company grew to what it is today, an international brand representing outerwear, skiwear, sportswear and footwear with a presence in over 50 countries. All products bearing the Columbia brand name boast of style and functionality, both of which bring great value to the wearer.

This company was founded by the parents of Gert Boyle, who is the current matriarch of Columbia Sportswear Company. Paul and Marie Lamfron fled from Germany and bought a hat distribution company in Portland, Oregon in 1937, re-naming it to the Columbia Hat Company. Shortly after facing supplier issues, the Lamfrons decided to manufacture their own hats instead. The development of this company only really took off after their daughter Gert took over the company and managed it together with her son, Tim Boyle. At this stage, Columbia was one of the first manufacturers of waterproof jackets that were made of breathable fabric. In the 80s, Gert ran a strong advertising campaign, creating greater awareness on the brand, and later bringing the company public in 1988. By this time, Columbia was regarded as a leader in outdoor apparel company internationally. Today, Columbia products are distributed internationally, through 12,000 retailers, 7 retail outlets in the US and a workforce of 1800 people around the world.

Columbia eye wear offers plenty of designs both in eyeglasses as well as sunglasses, consisting of rimless or metal framed eyeglasses, and fashionable plastic framed or metal framed sunglasses. Columbia eyeglasses are made mostly from metal frames, fitted with prescription lenses by the eyeglass retailer, with the Columbia logo featured on the temples of the eyeglasses. The Columbia sunglasses on the other hand, are designed with the outdoors in mind, in which the wearer is provided protection, comfort as well as clarity even for the most extreme weather conditions.
