Eyeglasses can be a significant expenditure and thus you should ensure proper
eyeglass care. Taking the right care of your eyewear will not only increase its life, but will also help to keep the lenses clean, resulting in enhanced and clearer vision. Here are some tips for eye glasses care.
Cleaning Your Eyewear
- Never clean the lens of your eyeglasses if it is dry. Always wet the lens with some water or eyeglass cleaning solution and then clean it. If nothing is at hand to wet the lenses, blow away any dirt or grime instead of rubbing the lens. Rubbing a dry lens can result in scratches on the surface.
- Regular washing of your eyeglasses with warm water and mild soap will help to keep the lenses free from any oily smudges or dirty fingerprints, thus enhancing vision.
- Using towels, paper napkins, or tissues to wipe your eyeglasses clean is not advisable as these can leave scratches on your eyewear. Special lens cloths and cloths made from micro fiber are great for use in eye glasses care.
- Eyeglass lenses clean very easily and effectively with isopropyl alcohol. You only need to spray a little of the stuff on your eyeglass lenses and buff them dry for a clean and shiny looking lens.
Handling Your Eye Glasses
- Always remove your eyewear using not just one, but both your hands. Removing your eyewear with only one hand can cause the ear-rails to get bent out of shape, thus giving your eyeglasses a lop-sided look.
- When setting down your eye glasses, ensure that you put them down with the eyeglass lenses facing up, else they might get scratched.
Storing Your Eyewear
- Develop a habit to always store your eye glasses in their protective eyeglass case or holder when you are not using them. This way, you will not only keep your eyeglasses safe, but will also be able to find them easily.
- Wrapping your eyeglass lenses in 100% cotton cloth, and then closing the ear-rails on top of the cloth, is another great way to store your eyeglasses, when not in use.
- Never store or place your eyeglasses in harsh sunlight or heat. This could cause your eyewear to get damaged.
