Eye Safety With Uvex Eyewear

Uvex eyewear has always been synonymous with safety glasses since the brand was founded 50 years ago by the Winter family in Germany. The Uvex Winter Optical company was brought to the United States in the 1960s, after which the company focused its product development efforts toward the direction of lens technology, lens coating, style and fashion design, all of which Uvex eyeglasses are popular for today.

Uvex’s continuous emphasis on development in the direction of improving capabilities, comfort, fit, durability, styling, and designs of eyewear produced, have driven them to earn the reputation of being the acknowledged leader in protective eyewear innovation. As a result of these efforts, Uvex has also earned dozens of patents particularly for technological innovations which they have introduced to the commercial and consumer marketplace.

By combining the higher impact-resistant standards of Uvex safety eyewear with innovative and fashionable designs, wearers are more compelled to wear protective eyewear. A good example of these traits is reflected in the design of the Astrospec® 3000, introduced in 1990, which combined fitting adjustability, comfort and different sizes with contemporary styling and a variety of sizes.

Additionally, Uvex safety eye wear also placed importance on lens technology. This has spearheaded the product offering of tinted lenses, which included Uvex’s Spectrum Control Technology (SCT™) line of filters. Apart from these lenses’ ability to filter 99.9% of harmful ultra-violet (UV) radiation, they were also coated with dual layers of scratch resistant coating and anti-fog coating.

Over the years, many new ranges of Uvex safety eyeglasses were introduced. Amongst these models included the Uvex Genesis®, which incorporated the use of Multi-Material Technology (MMT), where hard and soft plastic were molded together for extra comfort and energy absorption, at the same time bearing the capability to withstand strong impact velocities. This protective eyeglass was so well developed and designed that it earned the privilege of being the first protective eyeglasses created that met the military Vo ballistic impact criteria. With this credibility to its name, Uvex’s sales of the Genesis concurrently increased, which continued to grow as new styles and designs were added to the Genesis family.

When Uvex was bought by Christian Dalloz, the company spearheaded a drive to build a portfolio of eyewear brands. With this, Uvex eyewear designs were directed to focus on premium performance while Wilson eyewear concentrated on stylish designs with competitive prices. All these innovations over the decades have proven to support the company in sustaining itself as a leading pioneer in protective eyewear in the past and well into the future.
